OUR STORY
The business was started in 1979 by Duane and Vicki Murphy as a small family-owned dirt moving business. Operated as Murphy Construction, over the next 10 years, built multiple watershed dam projects, building sites, NRCS terrace projects, plus completed demolition projects and all sorts of excavation projects in southwest Iowa. In 1989 Duane and his small crew completed their first bridge project. Shortly after the company expanded their name to Murphy Heavy Contracting. Since 1989, Murphy Heavy Contracting has done multiple bridge, culvert and erosion-control projects, all over western Iowa, for local counties, cities, railroads and the Iowa DOT. In 2013 Murphy Heavy Contracting expanded again, this time into concrete and asphalt recycling, as well as custom limestone crushing. Today Murphy Heavy Contracting is operated by Duane and one of his sons, Brady, along with 25 very skilled and knowledgeable employees, many with multiple years of experience. Murphy Heavy Contracting currently has two bridge crews, and two crushing crews. All of them remain committed to doing superior, quality work, just as when the company was founded in 1979.
